HILLS SCHOOL, a K-12 Charter School at the Los Colinas Equestrian
Center
Irving, TX
This 120,000 sq. ft. project was initially designed as new construction,
however final design incorporated adaptive reuse of a 100 stall concrete
horse barn at an equestrian center into a two story K-12 facility, with
multi-functional shared activity in corridors, a library, and commercial
kitchen with cafeteria / auditorium. A new detached gymnasium
with sports flooring and operable bleachers completed the
facility. Design and construction was compressed into phases,
with Phase 1 including site development and K-6 wing, administration, and
library with outdoor play area. Phase 2 included the 7-12
classrooms, the kitchen with cafeteria, and the gymnasium. The large
site also included multi-use playing field for soccer and football.
